Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between TEFL and TESOL?

Firstly (TEFL) stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. This is the predominant acronym used in the UK. Whilst in the US the predominant acronym used is (TESOL), this stands for Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages. There is no difference regarding the actual course, apart from variations between American English and British English. When TEFL/TESOL certified you can explore new cultures, make new international friends, escape the rat race, learn a new language, improve your CV/resume, live and work in exotic locations, find love & romance, and make a positive difference to the lives of people around the world working either in-class or online.

Is my job placement guaranteed?

As long as you follow our instructions, you can find a teaching job after successfully completing your eTEFL course online. Remember all job offers are subject to an interview by the prospective employer. Present yourself professionally as you would with any job offer. For full terms and conditions regarding online employment visit the prospective employers websites.

What are my job prospects like and where can I teach?

An eTEFL online course is your gateway to working anywhere in the world. With English becoming the "global language", trained TEFL/TESOL teachers are in high demand, in primary and secondary schools, colleges, universities, and private language schools in over 150 countries from Thailand to Tanzania.
There is also a growing demand for online teachers so you may work from home (COVID 19 SECURED) or while traveling.

Do I need a bachelor's Degree (BA)?

No experience or qualifications required to enrol on an eTEFL online course. In some countries, you will also need a BA degree but not all. Officially, you need a BA degree to obtain a teaching permit in order to teach legally such as China and Thailand. However, there are a few exceptions were a degree is not required. Most ESL teachers do not have a BA degree. You can also teach privately, within a company or you can teach online remotely with our dedicated referral scheme (COVID 19 SECURE).

"An estimated 250,000 native English speakers working as English teachers abroad in more than 40,000 schools and language institutes around the world"

Do I need a TEFL/TESOL qualification?

You don't need a TEFL/TESOL qualification for all teaching jobs. You should be aware though that these jobs are usually the lowest paid and not always with the most reputable employers. A TEFL/TESOL qualification gives you the skills and confidence to stand up in front of a class of students and teach effectively so it's definitely worth having, especially if you don't already have experience in this.

“Some employers will expect you to have a degree or a qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). You will also need patience and a good sense of humour.”
National Careers Service (UK)

Do I need to speak the local language?

No, in fact it's often preferred that you only speak English in the classroom to help the students learn. Many TEFL/TESOL courses will teach you techniques to overcome the language barrier including drawing pictures and using props. They already have Madarin teachers  in China that's why we are hiring fluent English speakers, (passport holders for verification purposes)  from the UK, US, CANADA, IRELAND, NEW ZEALAND & AUSTRALIA. (*issues currently surround verification of the South African passport)

How old do you need to be? What are the requirements to enrol on this course?

You should:
* Be fluent in written and spoken English.
* Be at least 17 years of age at the time of formally applying for a teaching position. (No upper age limit!)
* Have a desire to teach people to speak English.
* Be positive and flexible, with a sense of humor.
* Have the ability to produce a good standard of work.
